Nuclear physics
Rather than the more experimental nuclear reactions, Dr. Suresh Kumar's group focuses on the more theoretical aspect of nuclear physics - the internal structure of atomic nuclei. The group is currently working on the structure of Cesium-136 nucleus, specifically, the neutrino less double beta decay of this nucleus.
Although the standard model consists of both a neutrino and it's antiparticle, the anti-neutrino, the neutrino less beta decay of the Cesium-136 nuclei point towards a completely new discovery. As mentioned by one of the researchers of this group, the anomaly in this decay process might prove that "neutrinos are anti-neutrinos". This might even turn out to be an error in the calculation, but if really this discovery comes out, it will have far reaching implications on contemporary physics.
The group uses experimental data from national nuclear labs like the IUSC, TIF and the VCC.

Dr. T.R. Sheshadri is one of the savants in the department who rather than experimental physics, took hardcore physics as a field of research. With his six students, he conducts research on the various baffling questions of modern cosmology including the generation of primordial magnetic fields, mechanism of the re-ionization of universe and inflation in the early universe.
According to Dr. T.R. Sheshadri, research in pure science is like poetry. Dr. T.R. Sheshadri refers to the monthly notices of the royal astronomical society for keeping up to date with the cosmological research being conducted around the world.
